Nick + Nicola

Glen Ewin is such a wonderful venue to shoot at. What makes it truly magical is the love that shines bright there. One that beamed brightest for me was Nicola + Nick’s beautiful wedding.

Sarah + Sean

I was like a giddy school girl at Sean + Sarah’s wedding!!!! Everywhere I looked there was something to photograph. Sarah and her amazing friends outdid themselves with how simply beautiful this wedding was. When I arrived at Sarah’s parents house I could hear laughter and the mood was so warm and relaxed. Abby Sarah’s childhood dog sat dutifully at her side as the final touches were added to her hair and make up. As I mentioned there was a lot of laughter and it only grew louder as everyone piled on the bed to have a groups pic just as the slats gave way! Sarah shone as a bride in white and walking down the aisle to her husband to be Sean was one of the most beautiful sights.

I dont thing they could have chosen a more perfect location. Woodhouse in Piccadilly had so much to offer and made photographing these two a treat but the real credit goes to Sarah. With her thoughtful details that adorned the tables. Antique type writers with words of love, rustic doors as a creative seating chart, milk bottles for the guests to enjoy home made punch and my favourite of all Myrtle and May Traveling Refreshments there to give all the guests a cafeine boost. Not only did it make for a dream to photograph but each piece was meaningful to the couple like their LOVE for coffee, gentle reflection of their beliefs and even jiminy cricket hidden in their wedding cake.

It was such a special day and one I truly enjoyed being a part of.

Alan + Shonah {on the first day of Christmas}

The first year of my blog I did a 12 days of Christmas. 12 things that make me smile, make me thankful and remind me a little about what the true gift of Christmas really is. The first 12 blogs shared my life and my cameras life for most of 2010 so I though I would do a 2012 edition. There will be a slight twist to it as this year was spent sharing in something truly wonderful, the thing that makes you go weak at the knees, want to come home to and definitely makes the world go round… LOVE!

So here it is….

On the first day of Christmas Carly showed to me a ready made family.

To use Alan’s words the love Shonah and Alan share is truly magical. All of their firsts were truly special, perhaps because they both know the value of holding onto something special. Shonah and Alan both know about deep love and deep loss. Both had been married and lost their partner, both found the amazing joy of parenthood Shonah with her daughter and Alan with his son. Both had hearts so big that they had more love to give and when these two met something magical happened. I saw the spark in Alan’s eyes (who is a friend of mine from church). I knew there must be a lady who has captured his heart and I wasn’t mistaken. Shonah and Alan seemed to truly fit each other and what was equally as special was how well their children fit each other. Their love as brother and sister was instant with the big brother being gorgeously protective and the little sister adoringly faithful. It was like God had brought a little bit of magic in their lives and their hearts already knew each other, all four of them.

It wasn’t long until Alan popped the question… Of course Shonah said yes! Their wedding was darling. Al Ru Farm in One Tree Hill was simply stunning. Something was in the air and tissues were needed (part love part hay fever). We danced the night away, laughed, celebrated. Everything about this wedding was so personal, every moment savoured. Even the car Shonah was taken home from the hospital in was restored to take her to the altar. Possibly the cutest thing of all was Shonah’s daughter running up to me squealing “My daddy can have sleep overs every night, he never has to go to his other home again cos his home is our home now.”

I left with this thought, left knowing that this family always has a home in each others arms and can have a sleep over for the rest of their lives!

Danielle + Greg

Photographing Danielle and Greg’s wedding was such a delight. Held at Carrick Hill this garden affair was truly stunning and the simple white and green colour palette of the reception was just gorgeous! Everywhere you looked there was photographic inspiration, none more so inspired by the oh so stunning Danielle who truly is a natural when it comes to photos! To make it even more fun I had Nicole Cordeiro along for all the fun second shooting (she is a details virtuoso). I also got to be bridal Macgyver along with Danielle’s dad while the girls were getting ready… What we can do with safety pins, gaffa tape and ingenuity is nothing short of a miracle!

I hope you enjoy this adorable wedding!

Bret and Pania {sneak peek}

There was a lot about Bret and Pania’s wedding that I fell in love with. There old house with original features. Handmade hairclips, buttons on glass jars with fresh picked flowers, Rondo the upsized version of my own pooch, the bridesmaid and best man, glistening fields and frolicking in them, sunshine, Eagle Rock and the boys ritual bonding experience during it, traditional New Zealand songs sung by a chorus of family, handmade cake toppers from etsy.com, buntings that hung between trees… Oh I could go on and on and on…

What I fell in love with the most were the two people it was all about. Pania and Bret are truly fantastic, as individuals they are lovely, funny and two genuinely great people but together they are something even more special. They have that kind of love that comes from knowing someone and appreciating them for who they truly are. As Bret gave his speech I was tearing up from the back of the room (along with everyone else in the place). His words were filled with so much adoration as he expressed the many things he loves about Pania as she looked up at him with her one dimple smile and a tear or two.

Bret and Pania you truly are each others best mate. I pray that through every season your love grows and every day you get your big squeezy hug and a kiss. Thank you for letting me share your day with you and for helping me have Huey Lewis’s tune ‘happy to be stuck with you’ playing on repeat in my mind. May you be as happy as pigs in mud when you are old, grey and have loads of smile lines from laughing together.

Carly xoxo
